Hazard Communication and Hazardous Waste Training
General Hazard Communication Training is presented by DEHS staff. Supervisors should contact the Industrial Hygiene Manager to schedule a class for their department/work unit. Hazardous Waste Training can be presented at the same session if requested.
Course Descriptions
General Hazard Communication Training
This training is mandatory for all employees who may be exposed to hazardous chemicals in work places other than research laboratories. The course presents an overview of the OSHA standard, the U of L Program, the physical and chemical hazards of chemicals, methods to detect the presence of chemicals, general means to protect against chemical exposure, the importance of preplanning, and how to interpret the information on material safety data sheets and labels.
Hazardous Waste
This training is mandatory for all persons who manage hazardous waste in university facilities. The class provides information about the basics of complying with hazardous waste regulations, instructs university personnel in the proper procedures for preparing hazardous waste for pick-up and disposal. The training will also provide guidance for completing a Hazardous Waste Pick-Up Request to DEHS.
