Meet the Team

2012-2013 University of Louisville Debate Team

Tiffany Dillard-Knox, Acting Director of Debate/Program Coordinator  

 

Tiffany teaches in the Pan African Studies and Communications departments. Her research interests include Cultural Communications and Hip Hop Studies. Outside of U of L, Tiffany enjoys playing basketball, watching her son Demetrius compete in athletic and academic competitions, and spending time her husband Corey. A former U of L debater herself, Tiffany cites the program with helping her grow personally, academically, and in civic engagement. Her goal for the year is to coach the team to at least one national championship.

Tiaundra Gordon, Varsity Debater                                                

Senior, Political Science Major, Pan African Studies Minor, from Elizabethtown Kentucky

Tiaundra has worked at Bismore Law Firm and plans to become a lawyer. She credits U of L Debate with providing an opportunity to be politically active.

Brian Huot, Varsity Debater                                                            

Senior, History Major, Sociology Minor, from Surrey British Columbia and Florence Kentucky

Brian volunteers with Jefferson County Debate League and at KHSSC tournament. He will be coaching the debate team at Trinity High School this year.

Chris Vincent, Varsity Debater                                                         

Senior, English Major, Sociology Minor, from Louisville

Chris spent his summer instructing high school debaters at the Memphis Urban Debate League Summer Institute and Indiana University Hoosier Debate Camp. He also coaches debate at a local high school. Chris plans to pursue a master’s degree before beginning a career as a teacher.

Aaron Weathers, Varsity Debater

Senior, Pan African Studies Major, LGBTQ Studies Minor, from Louisville

Aaron is the co-founder of BLKOUT, a tutor at River City Drum Corps, and a summer instructor at Memphis Urban Debate League. He credits U of L Debate with giving him the drive, passion and skills to address social justice issues. He plans to pursue a career as professor and to teach Black Queer Studies.

Junior, Psychology Major, from Lexington Kentucky and Portsmouth Ohio

D’ Sarah credits the U of L Debate team with helping sharpen her critical thinking skills and reach her goal of achieving perfection through peace.

Doug Lusco, Varsity Debater                                                            

Junior, Economics Major, Finance and International Business Minors, from Union Kentucky

Doug is a justice in the Student Government Association and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.  He credits U of L Debate with exposing him to ideas about how he can be involved in social activism.

Michael Barnett, Varsity Debater                                                   

Sophomore, Psychology Major, Sociology and Political Science Minors, from Burlington Kentucky 

Michael volunteers through his church and with Habitat for Humanity. He credits U of L Debate with providing an opportunity to learn about the challenges others face, hear their experiences, and become a more responsible and aware person.

Indraneel Reddy, Varsity Debater                                                  

Sophomore, Biology Major, Chemistry Minor, from Hazard Kentucky

Neel is member of GEMS and the Indian Student Association. He credits U of L Debate with making him more socially aware and active in society. He plans to become a doctor.

Jessica Kettle, Novice Debater

Freshman, Communications Major, from Louisville

Jessica is an active member of her church and youth group, the Girl Scouts and Girl Scout Board of Directions, and a frequent participant in volunteer efforts around Louisville.  She plans to pursue a career as a lawyer and advocate for human rights.


Lynda Mercer, Graduate Assistant

PHD Student in Humanities Division, from Grayson County Kentucky

Lynda earned a master degree in English from U of L. She is a founding member and former president of the Humanities PHD Student Organization, the Vice-President of the Graduate Student Council, and a volunteer at the Kentucky Women’s Book Festival and Forecastle Festival. 

 

James Garrett, Graduate Assistant

MA Student in Humanities Division, from Cleveland Ohio

 James graduated from Davidson College. He completed two terms as an AmeriCorps volunteer before starting graduate school.
