Tim Mattox (back to camera) explains the Flat Neighborhood Network (FNN) connection strategy he and Hank Dietz designed and implemented for the Comparative Planetology Linux Engine (COMPLINE), a 40-node PC cluster that achieves 33.9 Gflops on the HPL 64-bit benchmark at a total cost of $25,031.84, or 74 cents per Mflop.  Looking on, from left to right, are Rainer Bleck, David Bacon, and Jim Purser. Hidden behind the window (except for his arm) is Hank Dietz.
