.......EPIC model of a Jovian hotspot by Showman & Dowling (2000).
The Galileo Probe sounded Jupiter's atmosphere at the southern rim of a hotspot, similar to the position of the black diamond in the figure above. The wind shear seen there is similar to what the Galileo Probe Doppler wind experiment measured. Significantly, the model wind shear is a strong function of position, implying that the Probe wind profile may not represent the entire planet.
