Relationships

Unhealthy relationships are characterized by, but not limited to:

◦  An unrealistic expectation that partners are to be perfect and will meet all of each other’s needs.

◦  An expectation that one partner can change the other to meet his/her wants or needs.

◦  A tendency for one or both partners to be controlling and/ or jealous of the other’s friends, family, and/or activities.

◦  An atmosphere of  hypersensitivity, where one or both partners is easily insulted and claims hurt feelings when they’re actually angry.

◦  An expectation that rigid gender roles be followed, such as the female serving, obeying, and remaining at home.

◦  An illusion that the relationship will always be the same, will always be without problems, or will last forever.

◦  A tendency towards always blaming others for problems or mistakes.

◦  An atmosphere of constant criticism, belittling, and degrading of one another.
