The laws governing copyright restrict the frequency and sources of items reproduced electronically. For that reason, many of these stipulations are non-negotiable. Restrictions on basis of copyright do not apply to U.S. Government Documents or items in the public domain.

Materials That Can Be Placed on Reserve:

  • Items on electronic reserve may be used only once without explicit permission from the copyright holder. To obtain permission, please contact Copyright Permission Services or call (502) 852-5099.
  • No more than two titles or chapters from the same book or collective work, or two articles per periodical issue may be placed on reserve per semester.
  • Links to articles in full-text databases for which UofL has a licensing agreement.

Materials That Cannot be Placed on Reserve:

  • No items intended to be consumable may be reproduced electronically; this includes standardized tests and workbook excerpts.
  • Materials appearing in a course pack and inter-library loans may not be reproduced electronically.
