As part of the University of Louisville's Signature Partnership with West Louisville, Dr. Tom Owen is now available for the following workshops:

West Louisville Neighborhoods History - The talk focuses on how subdivisions of the 19th and 20th Centuries transformed the rural landscape into city neighborhoods of diverse ethnic and economic composition.  Tom delights in demonstrating how transportation corridors shaped the industrial, institutional and commercial character of West Louisville's many neighborhoods and chronicles the late 20th century dynamics that led to dramatic change there.

West Louisville Mini-Neighborhood History Workshop - Designed for neighborhood youth and community leaders, the workshop uses archival resources such as maps, oral histories, old newspapers, photos and on-site observation to develop the story of a small sector of West Louisville.  The session is designed for a group of 15 or fewer and may be conducted at UofL's University Archives.

West Louisville Birds Can Fly: Biographical Sketches of Black and White Notables Raised in the Westend (under development) - Over the decades, West Louisville has contributed more than its share of community, political, business, educational and professional leaders.  The talk will be fast paced and highlight how strong neighborhood life contributes to success.
