Every 1 Reads

by Susan Jenkins last modified Jan 12, 2010 02:08 PM

University of Louisville is teaming up with Jefferson County Public Schools through its Every 1 Reads program.  Every 1 Reads is a community-wide effort to make sure every JCPS student is reading at or above grade level.

Volunteers are needed to read with an individual student 30 minutes per week throughout the school year.  Faculty and staff may volunteer with pay for university-sponsored events such as Every 1 Reads after obtaining prior supervisor approval.  A supervisor may deny the request to volunteer if the time away from the workplace interferes with operational, customer service or other unit needs.  For classified employees, time spent volunteering shall be recorded on the individual's timesheet as supervisor-approved leave along with the number of hours volunteered.

Volunteer opportunities such as Every 1 Reads are important to the university's mission in many ways:

  • They improve the quality of life in the communities in which we serve, live and work
  • They enhance our efforts to be a good corporate citizen and caring neighbor
  • They improve employee morale and loyaltyEvery 1 Reads logo
  • They encourage teamwork and leadership among employees
