Ninth International Research Conference on Service-Learning and Community Engagement

The University of Ottawa and the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement are proud to invite you to the Ninth International Research Conference on Service-Learning and Community Engagement.  The 2009 conference will be held October 9-12, 2009 at the Westin Ottawa hotel in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

The theme of the conference is Research for What? Making Inquiry Matter.  This conference will address the goals underlying the research on service-learning and community engagement, the most effective means of achieving them, and the implications of such goals for a wide range of constituencies.

Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU)

The 15th Annual CUMU Conference, hosted by Widener University from October 11-13, 2009 in Philadelphia.  The conference will focus on "Building Community Resiliency: The role of University Leadership."   The term "distressed" is frequently used in describing the urban environments in which many metropolitan universities are situated.  This conference will explore how universities can promote a strengths-based approach to partnering with their communities to nuture community resiliency.

Third International Symposium on Service-Learning

Service–Learning in Higher Education: Educators, Communities, and Students"

Date: November 22-24, 2009

Venue: University of Indianapolis-Athens, Athens, Greece

This symposium will cover a wide cross section of issues in service-learning and community engagement in higher education.  The Symposium will be underpinned by five parallel conference tracks that should address one or more of the symposium questions:

1.      Paradigms for Institutionalizing Service-Learning and Paradigms for Enhancing Institutional Support and Community Collaboration in Service-Learning

2.      Interdisciplinary Paradigms for Service-Learning in Higher Education

3.      Paradigms for Integrating University, Community, and Students as Mutual Beneficiaries

4.      Paradigms for International Collaboration in Service-Learning Projects

5.      Paradigms for Curriculum Development and Best Practices in Service-Learning
