Introduction

Provost Shirley Willihnganz announces the first annual recognition program for faculty, staff, students and community partners who are involved in outstanding community engagement service.  A monetary award of $2,500 and permanent recognition will go to recipients engaged in exemplary community engagement activities such as volunteerism, service-learning, outreach, partnerships, and curricular engagement.

Each award recipient will be permitted to designate a community service agency with whom they have partnered to receive a $2,500 monetary award to go towards supporting the community engagement activity.

The student recipient may designate $2,500 to his/her student group (RSO) or community service agency with whom the student participated.

The Outstanding Community Partner of the Year recipient will receive $5,000 with the stipulation that the funds are to be allocated directly to the specific community engagement activity (not for agency operating expenses).

All nominees will be invited to attend the Community Engagement Reception in October 2009 where award recipients will be announced.

Eligibility

Faculty

• Faculty member must have a minimum 5 years continuous employment at UofL
• Award may be given to individual or group of faculty (e.g. department or academic unit)
• Full-time and part-time faculty are eligible

Staff

• Staff member must have a minimum 5 years continuous employment at UofL
• Award may be given to individual or group of staff (e.g. office or administrative unit)
• Full-time and part-time staff members are eligible

Student

• Community engagement activity or service must have taken place while student(s) at UofL
• Award may be given to individual or group of students (e.g. RSO, class)
• Full-time and part-time students are eligible

Community Partner Award

• Award will be given to community service agency for outstanding community work in partnership with UofL
• Organization must be a 501c(3) agency in good standing
