Who may participate in the May Commencement Ceremony?
Graduate by the end of the May 2012 semester or have graduated in an earlier term. 
You cannot participate if you are not eligible to graduate by the end of the Spring 2012 semester. A student who is graduating in a later term may participate in the ceremony following their graduation. Student name listing in the program book is generated from the approved degree list. Your ceremony name call card is generated from the cap and gown online order list and is verified against the degree list.  See participation requirements from the left menu.

If you order a cap and gown and find that you are not eligible to graduate or cannot attend the ceremony, contact Enrollment Management 852-6528 before the March 31st deadline and your cap and gown order may be canceled and a full credit issued. If the ordering deadline has passed, refunds cannot be issued since your apparel has gone to production. Please pick up your apparel during distribution and use it in a later commencement ceremony when graduating.


Are there any lodging facilities near the KFC Yum! Center?
Yes.   The Galt House is the official hotel for the KFC Yum! Center. The Galt House will offer graduates and their guest special discounted room rates, check it out Galt House

Upon arrival in Louisville, visitors have 10,000 hotel and motel rooms to choose from , more than 2,000 rooms are within walking distance or trolley ride of the KFC Yum! Center, and some may offer special discounted rates to U of L participants, including graduates, families and friends.   For area information go to LOUISVILLE

The KFC Yum! Center is easily accessible by car, plane, and even trolley!  Major interstates I-64, I-65, and I-71 all lead straight to downtown Louisville, the Arena's home.  For visitors traveling by plane, the Louisville International Airport resides just 10 minutes away from the Arena. 


Is attendance at the University-wide rehearsal on Friday, May 11th required?  YES! All students attending the morning or afternoon University-wide ceremonies are required to attend the commencement rehearsal. The rehearsal will cover the processional and other student concerns, and will confirm your name call card and your place in the lineup.


Are tickets required to attend the ceremony?
No. Tickets are not issued for the ceremony and you may invite as many guests as you wish.


How do I receive my cap and gown?
If you place an online order before the March 31 deadline, your order will be ready for pick up at the Red Barn on the distribution dates.  See Cap and Gown Distribution from the left menu for a schedule of dates and times.


Do I have to pick up my apparel in person or can someone pick it up for me?
When you pick up your cap and gown, you are encouraged to check your order for correct contents and size. Be sure to have your confirmation order number with you. If someone else picks up your apparel, that person must assume these responsibilities for you. There will be no exchanges after distribution closes on Friday at 4:30 p.m.  All apparel must be picked up during distribution. Unclaimed apparel will not be refunded, credited or stored for later pickup.


How do I buy souvenir tassels?
You may purchase souvenir tassels online when you place an order for your cap and gown or you may purchase a souvenir tassel at the Red Barn during apparel distribution. Souvenir tassels are Red and Black and display the University's Minerva Seal. The souvenir tassel is not worn during the ceremony. The color tassel packaged with your apparel is worn during the ceremony and depicts your degree. Degree color tassels do not have a year tag.


What about Honor cords?
Students graduating with honors will be identified on a list provided by the Dean's office of their school or college. If you believe you are eligible for honors and you are not on the list, you must go to your Dean's office to resolve the issue and get written permission to purchase a cord. Honor cords may be purchased at the Red Barn during apparel distribution dates and times.


Where can I buy a class ring?
Class rings will be on display at the Graduation Fair.  The bookstores offer University of Louisville class rings.


Where can I buy a Commencement video?
The University’s technology staff will provide video services at the ceremony.  The DVD of the University-wide ceremony will be available for purchase approximately two weeks after the ceremony.  Information for ordering the DVD will be posted in the left menu following the ceremony. 


Diploma questions?
If you have a question regarding your degree application or diploma,  see Diplomas in the left menu or contact the Office of the Registrar at (502) 852-6522 .  You may also send an e-mail regoff  Diplomas usually arrive in the Registrar's Office 6 to 8 weeks after commencement.


When will my degree be posted on my transcript? Most degrees are posted on transcripts one month after commencement. You can check your unofficial transcript from the UofL web site:  Unofficial Transcript  This service provides  unofficial transcripts of  course work between Fall 1982 to the present.
