Systematic Treatment of Autism and Related Disorders Philosophy

We believe that success results from collaborative planning and implementation of individualized therapeutic plans that meet the specific needs of individuals with autism and related disorders.  Our approach emphasizes engagement and learning that can be carried over to home, community, educational or other settings.

Raising a child with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) begins an unexpected emotional journey.  Although your dreams for your child have been altered, we want to assure you that there is hope and that we are committed to providing help.  Few guidelines exist for predicting outcomes for children within the spectrum.  At the same time, early intensive intervention using best practices has demonstrated success.

Without a doubt, an intensive and structured early intervention program that focuses on communication, social, behavioral and educational facets of your child’s development is critical and can achieve results.  There are many treatment options available, and we can help you sort through them.  Our clinicians are trained in practices backed by the best research.  Our approach combines the best of the most effective treatment options and includes Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Floor Time, Structured Teaching, Incidental Teaching, Discrete Trial, Pivotal Response Training (PRT) as well as many other effective methods.  We conduct an individualized assessment and then, using your priorities and our expertise with these numerous strategies, choose the approaches which will best expand your child’s unique abilities.

Our team offers the expertise of developmental pediatricians,  psychologists, speech language pathologists, occupational therapists and an educational specialist.  Our philosophy at STAR is that success results from working as a team to implement a plan customized to the needs of the individual.  We try to understand the challenges of each child and  family and offer support to ensure that the therapy we provide can be generalized in all environments.  And we will continue to be available as needs arise throughout the lifetime of your child!

We recognize that you are your child’s best advocate, but you should never feel alone.  In offering state-of-the-art therapy, STAR also offers hope to individuals and families struggling with ASDs.
