B.S. Chemistry - Business

Description

The Bachelor of Science Degree with a concentration in Business combines a general program in Chemistry with a fundamental program in Business. The curriculum is designed to prepare chemists for industrial and government positions, emphasizing managerial or administrative skills. Students opting for this major may be interested in careers in chemistry-related industrial or government management positions (marketing, purchasing, etc.), executive sales representatives for major chemical/drug manufacturers or distributors, or, technical representatives or consultants for chemistry-related instrumentation and equipment manufacturers.

Course Schedule

Below is a sample four-year setup. This sample is meant to provide students with an overview of the various courses required for the completion of a Bachelor of Science Degree with Business Concentration. A student's schedule will depend upon precollege preparation, course load and enrollment in summer courses; therefore, a student's schedule may deviate from the one provided. This curriculum permits a good deal of flexibility in scheduling because of the broad range of electives that can be used to fulfill degree requirements. Chemistry electives include any of the following: 320, 390WR, 391, 392, 420WR, 430, 445, 450, 491, 492, 515, 528, 529, 545, 546, 547. Graduate level courses (with permission of instructor) can also be used as electives. At least 50 hours must be at the 300 level or above. This is important to keep in mind when selecting electives and Social Sciences & Humanities courses. Of the three GenEd courses in Social and Behavioral Sciences, one must be within the Department of History. In Arts and Humanities, you must take one of each (designated A or H by the College). Cultural diversity requirements may be double-counted as shown below. The program requires two upper level WR courses, only one of which is shown in the semester listing below. The second WR can be a chemistry elective (390WR or 420WR) or a course outside the department. No more than 60 hours in Chemistry may apply towards the Bachelor of Sciences degree.
