Chemistry faculty members win accolades and awards
Christine V. Rich

Congratulations to Christy Rich for being named a "Top 6" Faculty Favorite of 2016-2017. Your exceptional teaching is much appreciated by the Chemistry Department and our students. This is a well-deserved recognition of her passion and commitment to STEM education. You can read student comments about Christy and the other chemistry instructors named as Faculty Favorites (Steven Cronin (GTA), Victoria Das (UTA), Craig Grapperhaus, and Mark Noble) on the Delphi website.

Photo of Prof. Craig Grapperhaus

Professor Craig Grapperhaus (Chemistry) has been designated a Research Exemplar by The Research Exemplar Project at Washington University School of Medicine. The program defines exemplary researchers as individuals who conduct high-quality, high-impact research and demonstrate professionalism and integrity in their work. The project aims to identify the practices that exemplars use to lead and manage their research labs. Grapperhaus was interviewed by the program in May and is featured on the P.I. Program website.

Sachin Handa, assistant professor in Chemistry and Organic Chemistry, has received the ACS GCI Pharmaceutical Roundtable Peter J. Dunn Award for Green Chemistry and Engineering Impact in the Pharmaceutical Industry. This award recognizes Handa's innovative work in the development of newly engineered catalysts for sustainable surfactant chemistry in water. Handa will receive a plaque commemorating the award and give an invited lecture at the Annual Green Chemistry and Engineering Conference in June in Portland, Oregon.
