Students

Your first Cardinal Card is FREE!

Cardinal Cards are issued to students enrolled in the current semester. Students must be enrolled in a class at least one day prior to getting a Cardinal Card.  If your enrollment should lapse, you should retain your card. Failure to comply with these conditions may result in the charge of a replacement fee upon your return.

Our Cardinal Cards do not expire, if you have previously received a Cardinal Card from the University it is still valid. To receive a replacement Cardinal Card there is a $15 fee.

When can I receive my Cardinal Card?

  • Fall semester: We start issuing student cards on the first business day in August for students enrolled in classes for Fall. Incoming freshmen will receive their card during their summer orientation session.
  • Spring semester: We start issuing student cards on the first business day after Fall commencement for students who are enrolled in classes for Spring.
  • Summer semesterWe start issuing student cards on the first business day in May for students who are enrolled in classes for Summer.

What to bring with you when getting a card:

  1. Student ID Number
  2. Photo ID (passport, driver's license, etc)
  3. Submit your Cardinal Card Agreement webform upon your visit to the office.
Online Photo Submission:
  1. Upload both your photo and your photo identification.
  2. Submit your Cardinal Card Agreement webform on the same day as your photo submission.
  3. Pick up your Cardinal Card at the Cardinal Card Office, Houchens LL05.
  4. This process is only available for first time card holders.

Online Students

Students must be enrolled in a class at least one day prior to getting a Cardinal Card. If your enrollment should lapse, you should retain your card.   3. Cardinal Cards will be mailed to the mailing address on file with the University. Please verify that your mailing address is accurate through Ulink.
  4. This process is only available for first time card holders.  

Faculty/Staff (Full-time)

Cardinal Cards are issued to employees during their new employee orientation or while active on payroll. Employees must be active on payroll at least one day prior to getting a Cardinal Card. To receive a replacement Cardinal Card there is a $15 fee.

If your employment should lapse, your Cardinal Card should be turned in to your supervisor. Failure to comply with these conditions may result in the charge of a replacement fee upon your return.

  3. Submit your Cardinal Card Agreement webform upon your visit to the office.

Faculty/Staff (Part-time)

Cardinal Cards are issued to part-time employees while they are active on UofL's payroll. Part-time employees must be on payroll at least one day prior to getting a Cardinal Card. 

Our Cardinal Cards do not expire, if you have previously received a Cardinal Card from the University it is still valid. To receive a replacement Cardinal Card there is a $15 fee.

What to bring with you when getting a card:

  1. Employee ID Number
  2. Photo ID ( passport, driver's license, etc)
  3. Submit your Cardinal Card Agreement webform upon your visit to the office.

Retiree

Cardinal Cards are issued to retirees once their retiree status is verified within WorkDay.  Please call or email our office in advance to ensure your retiree status has been updated. Verification of retiree status is required to receive a retiree card, i.e.retirement paperwork must be fully processed by HR and Payroll. To receive a replacement Cardinal Card there is a $15 fee.

What to bring with you when getting a card:

  1. Employee ID Number
  2. Bring your current Cardinal Card for exchange.
  3. Submit your Cardinal Card Agreement webform upon your visit to the office.

 

Affiliated Workers or Students

Cardinal Cards are issued to affiliated workers or students but they must submit an approval letter on UofL letterhead from the sponsoring unit, signed by the Dean or VP. If the affiliated individual will be assigned a sponsored account by the University (i.e. e-mail, Blackboard, etc.), please complete this letter after the account has been created.  An ID number will be assigned during the sponsored account process; this ID number must be included in the letter. This card does not allow access to TARC. To receive a replacement Cardinal Card there is a $15 fee.

What is a University affiliate worker or student?

Affiliated workers are individuals who work for the university but are NOT on the university payroll. 
Affiliated students are individuals who are NOT enrolled in classes with the University.

What to bring with you when getting a card:

  1. Approval letter
  2. ID number, if applicable
  3. Photo ID (passport, driver's license, etc)
  4. Submit your Cardinal Card Agreement webform upon your visit to the office.

 

Affiliate workers or student examples may include:

  1. Visiting Scholar
  2. Visiting Researcher
  3. Visiting Student
  4. Temp employee (not on UofL payroll)
  5. ROTC
  6. Other University Affiliate - to be used for any other type of individual needing access to university services. 

 

Alumni 


Alumni ID cards are available for $5. In order to receive one, please contact Alumni Relations at 502-852-3369. 

  • Please allow 3-5 business days for your card request to be processed and sent to the Cardinal Card Office.
  • These cards can be used to redeem various discounts and any other offers as promoted.

Visitors

Visiting patrons may purchase a visitor card from value ports that are located throughout campus. Visitor Cards allow patrons to participate in the Cardinal Cash program that allows them to print on campus. The cost of each visitor card is $2.00.

When purchasing a visitor card from a value port reader, please carefully follow the instructions displayed on the machine. Visitor card purchases are non-refundable.

Visitor cards can be revalued online, at the Cardinal Card Office, or at any Value Port machine.

Departments

To print and copy on campus, departments may purchase a department copy card from the Cardinal Card Office. These cards allow departments to add funds into an account which is restricted to printer and copier use.

Department copy cards can be purchased and reloaded here with a journal voucher. The cost of each copy card is $2.00. 

If a department copy card is lost/stolen, the Cardinal Card Office should be contacted to place a hold on the account to prohibit prints and copies. If a card is not reported lost/stolen, departments are responsible for all purchases made with their card.
