Research

My research focuses on periodontal immune and inflammatory processes, mainly explaining the causes, development and susceptibility markers of periodontal disease. My research team also examine the relationship between oral and systemic health and diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and periodontal disease.

Biography

I am Associate Dean for Research at the University of Louisville, Kentucky and Endowed Professor of Periodontology and Professor of Immunology since April 2002. I lead a research group on Oral Health and Systemic Disease. I am the recipient of various grants from CDC, NIH and the PHS and our group's funding annually is around $4M. I have published over 200 scientific articles, and review scientific work for prestigious journals and international research bodies. I lecture regularly internationally and currently chair the Gordon Conference in Periodontology.
