Cody Moore ('17) works with NWS on tornado re-classification for Jessamine Co.

A severe-wind event on May 18, 1995 in Jessamine County, Kentucky, has been reclassified as a pair of tornadoes. The research was carried out by John Gordon, Meteorologist-in-Charge at the Louisville National Weather Service office, and recent UofL atmospheric-science graduate Cody Moore ('17).

Recent UofL atmospheric-science graduate Cody Moore ('17) and Louisville National Weather Service (NWS) office Meteorologist-in-Charge John Gordon have collaborated on research leading to a severe-weather re-classification of the May 18, 1995 severe-wind event in Jessamine County, Kentucky.  Originally characterized as a straight-line wind event, Moore and Gordon re-analyzed radar, weather and damage-assessment data, and eye-witness accounts, and were able to conclusively establish that a pair of tornadoes were responsible for the damage.  See the NWS summary of the work and local TV news stories (1, 2) reporting the findings.
