Natatorium Policies

  1. The University of Louisville lifeguards have the right to remove anyone for behavior that is deemed either unsafe or inappropriate.
  2. The University of Louisville lifeguards have final authority on all matters concerning safety and emergency situations in the Ralph Wright Natatorium until relieved by proper authorities.
  3. The emergency procedure signal is three whistle blasts—please exit the pool immediately and follow the lifeguard’s instructions.
  4. Use of the pool in the Ralph Wright Natatorium is prohibited unless supervised by a University of Louisville lifeguard or authorized coach or instructor who is present on deck at all times.
  5. Children judged to be between 12-16 years of age must be supervised.  Young children judged to be under 12 years of age must be DIRECTLY supervised by an adult or coach at all times.
  6. The ability to swim one length of the pool without stopping is required in deep water areas.
  7. Use of flotation aide devices by non-swimmers is prohibited unless authorized by the Aquatic Director.  This includes lifejackets, water wings, baby floats, inner tubes, kickboards, pull-buoys, etc.  Exceptions:  proficient swimmers engaging in exercise or training programs, and persons with disabling conditions.
  8. Use of the diving boards and platforms is limited to authorized, registered collegiate and USA Divers, or approved groups providing appropriate insurance, and under the direct supervision of certified diving coaches or instructors.
  9. Use of the starting platforms is limited to authorized, registered collegiate and USA Swimmers, or approved groups providing appropriate insurance, and under the direct supervision of certified swimming coaches or instructors.
  10. No diving in areas with a water depth of less than 7 feet.
  11. Swimming underneath the moveable bulkheads is prohibited.
  12. Blocking or restriction of fire lanes or emergency exits is prohibited.
  13. Use of the emergency phone is limited to authorized Natatorium Personnel, unless directed by Natatorium staff.
  14. Animals are not allowed in the Natatorium except for the express purpose of assisting persons with disabling conditions.
  15. Use of the public locker rooms is limited to the following groups:  authorized Ralph Wright Natatorium personnel, Natatorium members, approved rental groups, and University classes.
  16. The Natatorium is a tobacco free and smoke free facility.
  17. No food or beverages allowed in the pool area except water in unbreakable containers.
  18. Use of emergency exits without authorization is limited to emergency use.
  19. No running.
  20. Use of bicycles, skateboards, roller blades, and other personal transportation devices inside the Natatorium is prohibited except for the express purpose of assisting persons with disabling conditions.
  21. No glass allowed anywhere in the Natatorium.
