Established in 2006, the Center for Asian Democracy promotes research & teaching by UofL faculty, graduate students, & visiting scholars, on democracy & the prospects for democratization in Asia. With these goals in mind, CAD has established a research fund to support undergraduate students working on an Honors Thesis on comparative analyses of democratization and governance in Asia.*
The funds are intended to facilitate research on the thesis and may be used for a variety of purposes including, but not limited to: specific educational materials (publications, software); support for conference participation; fieldwork expenses (transportation, accommodation) within the United States.
The funds are available to all UofL Arts and Sciences students.
How to Apply
Students should submit an application that includes the following:
• An application form (found on the CAD website)
• A recommendation form from the honors thesis advisor (found on the CAD website)
• Any other relevant documentation or materials
Requirements
If you are awarded an Honors Thesis Grant you will be required to submit a bound copy of your honors thesis to the Center for Asian Democracy upon completion.
Restrictions
Funds may be requested ONLY to cover expenses directly related to the project and may be spent only for the purpose for which the funds have been awarded.
The award amount maximum is $500.
Submission Information and Deadline
The deadlines for the funds for 2011-2012 are:
February 1, 2012 for Spring semester funding
April 1, 2012 for Summer semester funding
September 15, 2012 for Fall semester funding

* For the purposes of CAD, ‘Asia’ is inclusive of Central Asia, Northeast and Southeast Asia, South Asia (including Afghanistan) and Russia east of the Ural mountains
