Center for Asian Democracy
The mission of the Center for Asian Democracy, established in 2006, is to promote research and teaching about democracy and the prospects for democratization in Central, South, Southeast and East Asia. Through publications, conferences, workshops, visiting scholars programs, colloquia, and research projects in Asian countries, the Center creates a forum for studying political dynamics in this vital region.
The Center currently has about 20 full time Faculty Affiliates from different disciplinary backgrounds. In collaboration with the University Press of Kentucky, the Center is publishing a book series on democratic developments in Asia. We have just signed a contract with Renmin University of China Press to start another book series, “Contemporary Western Classics: Political Science Series (translations).” The Center is doing three international research projects in China, Kazakhstan, Vietnam and Laos. We recruit at least three Visiting Fellows a year, and are hiring an Endowed Chair in Asian Democracy.
