- Co-Director of the International Conference on Harmony, Diversity and Intercultural Communication, Harbin, China (June 2007). The conference is co-sponsored by the International Association for Intercultural Communication Studies and the China Association for Intercultural Communication.
- Founder, Institute for Intercultural Communication, housed in the Department of Communication and partially funded by the College of Arts and Sciences; the ultimate goal of this project is to create an informational web page and this will include the language, culture, and geography of China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Macao
