“Compared with the United States, Taiwan is a new democracy and civic culture is in the process of being shaped. Therefore it is harder for the loser of the election to swallow their pride and accept the result.”
Dr. Hua discussing recent US-China Economic Strategic Dialogue:
“The position of the US Congress regarding trade frictions between US and China has to be taken seriously. Compared with the other two branches of the US government, the Congress is closer to the American people. It is not only a matter of power politics. The Congress’ position is a reflection of the mentality of the American people.”
