On March 21, 2007, Dr. John McLeod's book African Elites in India was included in a set of books and DVDs on India, the Indian economy, and economic reforms in India, which the Government of India presented to the Nigerian Bureau of Public Enterprises.

On April 20, 2007, Dr. John McLeod delivered a paper entitled "The Rani of  Jhansi and India's First War of Independence" at the Library of Congress, as part of a symposium sponsored by the Asian Division of the Library of Congress and the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies.
