Professor Harris, Chair, reconvened the Assembly at 2:10 pm.

The Chair recognized Professor Journet who moved that the assembly move to Committee of the Whole for discussion of (1) Professor Theriot's motion, tabled at the last meeting, regarding debate on motions in the Assembly; (2) Professor Pfeffer's motion to create a Legislative Council; and (3) Professor Wise's motions regarding divisional status and divisional representation on committees.

Professor Journet's motion was seconded. Hearing no call for discussion, the Chair put the question on moving to Committee of the Whole, and the motion carried.

Professor Wise moved that a maximum of 20 minutes be allotted to discussion of each of the three items. The motion was seconded. Hearing no call for discussion, the Chair put the question, and the motion carried.

At the conclusion of the time allotted, there was a motion to rise and report to the Assembly that the question of bringing motions to the Assembly to be voted on as a whole had been discussed. The motion was seconded. The motion to rise from Committee of the Whole carried.

The Chair recognized Professor Theriot who moved to take from the table the motion to amend the proposed By-laws by striking IX. B.2.b. (Faculty Assembly Actions). The motion was seconded. The motion to remove from the table carried.

Discussion of the motion to amend by striking included Professors Theriot and Griffin.

Hearing no call for further discussion, the chair put the question and the motion to amend by striking carried.

Professor Pfeffer asked to be recorded as voting in the affirmative.

The motion was made and seconded to return to Committee of the Whole. The motion carried. The motion was made and seconded to limit discussion to 20 minutes. The motion carried.

At the conclusion of the time allotted, there was a motion to rise and report that the Committee of the Whole had discussed directing the ad hoc by-laws revision committee to draft a proposal for a Legislative Council for the College. The motion was seconded. The motion carried.

The Chair recognized Professor Pfeffer who moved that the ad hoc committee be directed to draft a proposal for a Legislative Council. The motion was seconded.

Hearing no call for discussion of the motion, the Chair put the question and the motion failed.

The motion was made and seconded to return to Committee of the Whole. The motion carried. The motion was made and seconded to limit discussion to 20 minutes. The motion carried.

At the conclusion of the time allotted, there was a motion to rise and report that the Committee of the Whole had discussed but not resolved all issues pertaining to retaining Divisional designations and retaining Divisional representation on College committees.

The motion was made and seconded to recess until Thursday, October 3, at 2:30. The motion failed.

The motion was made and seconded to recess until Monday, October 7, at 3:00 in Humanities 100. The motion carried.
