Monday Memo process change
Melissa Moody, PR and Publications Coordinator for the College, is leaving the Dean’s Office for a position at UVA in Charlottesville, Va. Her last day is 7/24. Please note that Monday Memo submissions should not be sent via email anymore. Effective 8/1, content you wish to see in the Monday Memo must be submitted via web form at uofl.me/as-mmform. Prof. Kelly presents keynote in Amsterdam
Prof. Baron Kelly (Theatre Arts) presented the keynote address June 30th at the ethnographic Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam. On the eve of the annual Keti Koti (the breaking of chains) celebration of the abolishment of slavery in Surinam in 1863, his talk centered around the ways that theatre for Africans Americans has always been a site of resistance against oppression.

Capt. Pocock SPI Alumni Association’s (SPIAA) 2017 Alumnus of the Year
Capt. Edward S. Pocock III, a 2014 graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s 129th Administrative Officers Course (AOC), where he served as the class Vice President and graduated as a Dean’s Scholar, was honored as the SPI Alumni Association’s (SPIAA) 2017 Alumnus of the Year at the association’s annual conference in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. He was selected for this recognition due to his passion for SPI and the University of Louisville’s educational opportunities and his generosity in setting up continuing funding, through the Lamb-Pocock Foundation, supporting and encouraging the education of the next generation of law enforcement leaders. Capt. Pocock also holds a Master of Science Degree with honors in Criminal Justice from the University of Louisville (2015).

U of L’s African American Theatre program staging new limited run of ‘Baltimore’ before festival (KyForward, 7/20/17) – The Theatre Department’s African American Theatre program will produce a limited run of ‘Baltimore’ on campus before traveling to the National Black Theatre Festival to put on the show.
