Message from the Dean

Dear Colleagues:

Please let’s have a good showing for the State of the University events. The picnic and laser show sound like big fun on Peace Day.

Friday will be the first session of the A&S Assembly. I look forward to sharing some observations with the faculty then.

Thanks.

Kimberly Kempf-Leonard, Dean

Research & Teaching

  • Please remember to post your syllabus to the Blackboard site of your course under the "Syllabus" heading. Instructions for naming and posting are available on the Blackboard site. If a syllabus is posted but not named correctly it will not be visible to the program that locates syllabi for SACS review. Please check the listing here (downloadable PDF) to see if your course is listed as missing a syllabus, and if it is listed, please check to see if you've followed the naming conventions.
  • The University Writing Center is launching a program to organize and facilitate faculty writing groups for junior faculty at UofL. The goal is to provide support, community, accountability, and feedback for junior faculty working on research writing. Our writing groups provide a regular setting in which faculty can get peer feedback on writing projects, discuss writing-related issues, or just have time for writing. Each meeting will be facilitated by a senior member of the University Writing Center staff who will coordinate workshop time, as well as offer mini-workshops as needed, or respond to individual questions. The groups will meet Tuesdays from 5-6:30 p.m. in the University Writing Center, starting in late October. We are planning three different groups – Humanities/Arts; Science/Engineering; Social Science/Education/Business – meeting on different weeks. Each group will meet once every three weeks. More information can be found in the Faculty Resources section of the University Writing Center website, or email Bronwyn Williams, director of the University Writing Center.
