KY ACE Spring 2021 leadership program featuring President Bendapudi

President Neeli Bendapudi will present, "Leading Through Change" at the Kentucky American Council on Education (ACE) Women's Network Spring Leadership program on Thursday, April 8 at 3 p.m. The Kentucky ACE Women’s Network facilitates the networking of women interested in pursuing leadership opportunities in higher education. All faculty and staff are welcome to join this free program as President Bendapudi shares her experiences and challenges during COVID-19, the election and racial unrest.

 

Calling All Faculty: Apply for the 2021 Green Threads / Green Tapestries Workshop

Want to integrate themes of ecological, social & economic stewardship into your courses? The Sustainability Council invites full- and part-time faculty, instructors & GTA Academy members from ANY discipline to apply for the 2021 Green Threads teaching enrichment program. Former participants are welcome in Green Tapestries. We’ll explore ways to embed sustainability in your curriculum. You’ll earn a $500 honorarium & an interdisciplinary collegial network. Apply by 3/31 with Chair’s approval.

 

2021 Undergraduate Arts & Research Showcase

Date & Time: Friday, April 16, 2021; 12 - 2 pm
Deadline for Abstract & Registration: Monday, April 5, 2021

The university-wide Undergraduate Arts & Research Showcase provides an opportunity for undergraduates to share their expertise with the larger university community. This showcase will show the variety of academic work that our undergraduate students are doing across the university. We encourage participation from all colleges and departments.

To participate, submit an abstract as described in the information above. All undergraduate student applicants are required to provide the name of a sponsoring faculty member who will receive notice of your submission. Only one presentation per student permitted. Women's Center scholarship opportunities 

The UofL Women's Center has a few undergraduate scholarships for the fall 2021. Scholarships range from $500 to $11,000. Please share with your students. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 23, 2021. Email womenctr@louisville.edu for more information.

Upcoming Employee Success special event: River City Drumbeat

The Employee Success Center and Office for Diversity and Equity are partnering to build conversations about racial justice, mentoring, West Louisville, and music through the documentary River City Drumbeat. Faculty, staff, students and retirees can get a free special access link to view the film, and then attend a special event hosted by Neeli Bendapudi on March 31 to talk with producer Owsley Brown, directors Anne Flatte and Marlon Johnson, founder Ed White, and executive director Albert Shumake.

 

COMMUNITY OF CARE

Kentucky Refugee Ministries Donation Drive

The LALS Program is partnering again with KRM to collect items for new mothers and their babies. Items needed: diapers (of all sizes), wipes, baby blankets, shampoo/conditioner, items for new moms, small toys/rattles, bottles, powder, bibs, pacifiers. Please bring all items to  Stevenson Hall 304-306, or to the box in 312 if both doors are locked. Please email Dr. Buchanan, LALS Program Director, or Emma Kubash, student donation coordinator, with any questions.

Prof. Karen Freberg (Communication) has received the "Most Promising Textbook Award" by the Textbook & Academic Authors Association for her publication, “Discovering Public Relations.” This award recognizes excellence in first edition textbooks and learning materials.
