The State of the College Address is September 13th

Join us Friday, September 13, 2019, in Humanities 100 at 3 PM for the 2019 State of the College Address presented by Dean Kimberly Kempf-Leonard.
 
The address will be immediately followed by a reception in the first-floor lobby of the Shumaker Research Building (Adult beverages served).
 
For those of you unable to attend who wish to view the address online, please join the private A&S Faculty & Staff Facebook group.

University Writing Center Open for Fall

The University Writing Center serves all UofL faculty, staff, and students. Our individual consultations provide feedback on any type of writing at any point in the writing process. Invite us to your classes or meetings for a brief introduction to our services or customized workshop. We also facilitate three writing groups: graduate and faculty, creative writing, and LBGTQ+. Visit our website for appointments, writing group schedules, online resources, and the class visits request form.

Campus Health Services is offering new ways for faculty and staff to spark mindfulness and get healthy with a number of new programs. 

  • One Mindful Moment is a series of brief guided relaxation and meditation events that are held all across campus at a variety of times. Feel free to drop in for fifteen to twenty minutes to enjoy the calm on our busy campus.
  • KORU Mindfulness is a weekly four-session program meant to teach you the basics of meditation and mindfulness. For times, locations, and registration, please see click the link above.
  • Group fitness options are available! Classes include yoga, tai chi, boot camps, and other fitness options, all for free!

Prof. Strickley publishes an international feature on writing

Congratulations to Sarah Strickley! She was invited by the Academy of New Zealand Literature to participate in their Kōrero project in which a New Zealand writer is paired with an American writer for the purpose of conducting a "no-PR, no-Q&A" conversation on the subject of writing and the writing life. The result of Sarah's Kōrero with Tracey Slaughter has been published is available online.

Prof. Omer-Sherman creates a teaching module

Ranen Omer-Sherman created a teaching module for teachers working with Amos Oz’s famous short story “Nomad and Viper,” for The Yiddish Book Center’s Great Jewish Books Teacher Resources, an online compendium. You can view it here
