Join us for the Celebration of Excellence tomorrow, April 23rd at 2PM at the Red Barn. It is our opportunity to honor some recognize the expertise, talent, and commitment of some of our most outstanding individuals in A&S. Come support your colleagues!

Great Place to Learn

Justice and Music event reaches more than 200 people

Congratulations to the Department of Criminal Justice's collaborative efforts of CJ 596-Social & Restorative Justice students, the Criminal Justice organizations-Lambda Alpha Epsilon (LAE) and Alpha Phi Sigma (APS), the Social Change minor and the Anne Braden Institute for their inaugural event "Justice And Music (J.A.M.)". They raised the 'social justice consciousness' of over 200 people at the Red Barn on April 9th. The student organizations, LAE and APS also won the 2018-2019 Collaboration Award at the University of Louisville's 20th Annual Student Award ceremony for their collaborative efforts on their National Criminal Justice Month. War of the Words, a chance to learn and come together

TONIGHT! PLEASE SHARE WITH STUDENTS. Want to build a more welcoming campus? Student Advocates for Peace and Justice, the Phi Sigma Tau Philosophy Club, and the Peace, Justice & Conflict Transformation program have organized "War of the Words," a peacebuilding opportunity for students to learn how to navigate disagreement and transcend difference. Small group discussions on contemporary socio-political topics will include police brutality, reproductive rights, immigration, and gun violence. Doctoral student wins Princeton Grant!

Doctoral student Nicholas McLeod (Pan-African Studies) won the highly competitive and prestigious Princeton University Library Research Grant for 2019.  The grant is to support his archival research at their library this summer. Specifically, he will be examining the original documents of Caribbean economist W Arthur Lewis as they relate to his dissertation that assess the influence  of Caribbean intellectuals on Kwame Nkrumah and Ghana’s first Republic 1957-1966.

Congratulations to our winners at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival!

Prof. Baron Kelly's (Theatre Arts) students won first prize in Washington, D.C. at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival! This constitutes major exposure not only for the students, but also for UofL's theatre program. This is a first for the department and the university as a whole.

C.O.N.E.C.T. program receives award

C.O.N.E.C.T. (Caring Of New students Experiencing College Transition) Peer Mentoring Program received the 2018-2019 RSO (under 50 members) Student Organization of the Year Award.  C.O.N.E.C.T. is sponsored by A&S Advising and Student Services.

UofL alumnus will be studying abroad in Germany

Out of hundreds of applications, NSCS UofL alumnus Brandt Coleman has been awarded a major international scholarship. Brandt was selected for a Graduate Scholarship in the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) program. The award consists of a full Master's degree program at a German university, a monthly stipend, travel subsidy to Germany, funds to cover study related travel to science schools and supplemental programs along with health, accident and personal liability insurance coverage. The award is worth  a conversion value of approximately $18,000 USD per year in addition to a full graduate tuition scholarship at a German university. Brandt is studying towards a MSC degree in environmental science at the Universität Bayreuth in Bavaria Germany.

Opportunity for pursuing Canadian Fulbright Awards

PLEASE SHARE WITH YOUR STUDENTS: Dr. Michael Hawes, CEO of Fulbright Canada, will be on campus next Thursday to talk to interested faculty and graduate students about pursuing Fulbright Awards in Canada and to forge closer ties between his organization and UofL. He will be hosting a luncheon for interested students and faculty at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, April 25, at the University Club. For questions or to reserve a space, email Charlie Leonard.
