Our students benefit from the dedication of our staff and faculty, and the engaging array of academic programs and research opportunities we offer. Army ROTC Academic Advisor brief

The Army ROTC Department invites all UofL academic advisors, department chairs and academic program directors to an academic advisor brief on December 3, 10AM in the Chao Auditorium to learn about Army ROTC scholarship and curriculum opportunities. As we continue to try to understand what makes our students tick and how to best position them for the job market, we have to consider their mindset. This article on Generation Z raises a few interesting points and reinforces many issues already being discussed.

UofL Quiz Bowl Team state champs!

Congrats to the U of L Quiz Bowl team for sweeping both division I and II at the Kentucky Collegiate Quick Recall League tournament held this past Saturday on campus. The team went a combined 14-1 on the day and defeated teams from Transylvania, Cumberlands, Eastern Kentucky, Jefferson CTC, and East Central College. For more on the wins

Safe campus transportation 

The implementation of the Card Cab shuttle system has taken a lot of the burden off of the ULPD Campus Escort Service that used to operate during peak hours of the night. ULPD has agreed to continue its transportation assistance services outside of Card Cab hours – from dusk until 10PM and from 4AM to dawn. Below are the safe travel options available between dusk and dawn and during holiday breaks.

Belknap Campus
Between dusk and 10PM and between 4AM and dawn, 7 days a week: ULPD provides security officers who can help you to your destination (Call ULPD at (502) 852-6111 to request assistance)
Between 10PM and 4AM, Monday through Saturday: Card Cab is available to drive you around campus and the surrounding residential areas (Use the Card Cab app to request a ride.)

Health Sciences Campus
Between dusk and dawn, 7 days a week: ULPD provides security officers who can help you to your destination (Call ULPD at (502) 852-2402 to request assistance.)

Holiday Breaks 
Thanksgiving Break (November 21 - 25) & Winter Break (December 11 - January 6): ULPD will provide mobility support (Call ULPD at (502) 852-6111 (Belknap) and (502)852-2402 (HSC) to request assistance). Card Cab services will not be available.

Diversity & Inclusion

Prof. Theriot wins Tachau Gender Equity Award

Prof. Nancy Theriot (Women's & Gender Studies) received the Dr. Mary K. Bonsteel Tachau Gender Equity Award for her significant work in this area. The award is named in honor of the late Prof. Tachau, constitutional scholar, the first woman to serve as chair of the UofL Department of History, and the first woman chair of the Faculty Senate.

Prof. Nuessel cited in article about the cultural shaping power of language

Prof. Frank Nuessel (Classical & Modern Languages) was cited in Fransi Weinstein’s article “Words Matter: Language and Symbols Have the Power to Shape Culture and Instigate Change” in YOUAREUNLT Magazine # 3, p. 22-25 (Toronto).
