The Chair called the meeting to order at 3:05.

Discussion continued of Article 3.2. Compensation.

Professor Ziegler moved to amend 3.2, paragraph 2, with the addition of "Normally, probationary faculty will not teach additional courses." following sentence 1.

The motion was seconded.

Discussion included Professor Chalmers, Byers, Dakan, Schwartz, Covell, and Hall.

Hearing no call for further discussion, the Chair put the question and the motion failed.

Professor Hall moved to delete paragraphs 2 and 3 of Article 3.2. The motion was seconded.

Discussion included Professors Ferre, Golding, Hart, and Pfeffer.

Hearing no call for further discussion, the Chair put the question to amend by striking, and the motion carried.

Discussion of Article 3.3. Work Outside the University included Professors Lee, Ferre, Weissbach, Covell, and Billingsley. Professor Billingsley moved to insert "professional" between "unpaid" and "work" in line 1 of 3.3. The motion was seconded.

Discussion included Professor Riedel.

Hearing no call for further discussion, the Chair put the question and the motion carried.

Continued discussion included Professor McCarthy, Hall, Schwartz, Byers, Weissbach, Riedel, Hudson, and Klotz.

Professor Klotz moved to substitute reference to the appropriate section of the Redbook for Article 3.3. [ Redbook 4.3.3]

Discussion included Professors Covell, Cumbler, Ferre, Leuthart, Weissbach, Cerrito, Schwartz, Hall, and Jones.

The Chair put the question to substitute "See Redbook 4.3.3" for Article 3.3, and the motion carried.

Discussion of Article 6 included Professors Pfeffer and Byers.

Professor Pfeffer moved to change sentence 1 of Article 6. Personnel Documents to "Criteria in departmental personnel policy statements shall be consistent with the College personnel policy."

The motion was seconded.

Hearing no call for discussion, the Chair put the question and the motion carried.

Hearing no call for further discussion, the Chair said that the assembly had concluded its discussion of the document seriatim and that the entire document as amended was now on the floor.

The Chair recognized Professor Cumbler, who moved substitution of a step-scale system for Article 2.1. Annual Review. The motion was seconded.

Professors Leuthart and Dakan presented several charts and graphs analyzing issues related to a step-scale system.

Noting that the announced time of the meeting had ended, the Chair declared the Assembly in recess until March 18.
