The Chair called the Assembly to order at 3:05.

The Chair reported that the Assembly had concluded discussion seriatim through 2.2.F.6 and would begin with section 2.2.G. Pretenure Review.

Professor Pfeffer moved to amend 2.2.G paragraph 2, line 2, by changing the date from October 1 to August 1 at which the department chair must inform the faculty member in writing that the review will occur. The motion was seconded.

Discussion included Professors Pfeffer, Griffin, R. Jones, Tyler, Byers, Cumbler, Covell, Leichty, Ferre, and Ziegler.

Hearing no call for further discussion, the Chair put the question and stated that the "ayes" appeared to have it.

A division of the house was called. The motion carried with 31 for and 21 opposed.

2.2.I.10. Procedures for Reviews and Evaluations for Tenure and Promotion:

Discussion included Professors Ferre, Hall, Ryan, Willey, Anderson, and Pfeffer.

Professor Hall moved to delete "tenured" in sentence 1 of 2.2.I.10 and replace it with "tenure track." The motion was seconded.

Discussion included Professors Barnes and Byers.

Professor Byers sought unanimous consent to substitute "probationary and tenured" for "tenure track" as proposed by Professor Hall. Hearing no objection, the Chair made the substitution.

Continuing discussion of 2.2.I.10 included Professors Ziegler, Dugatkin, Pfeffer, Covell, Thomas, Cumbler, Riedel, and Weissbach.

Professor Weissbach sought unanimous consent to substitute "each probationary and tenured faculty member…shall have a single vote."

Discussion included Professors Chalmers, Ferre, and Byers.

Unanimous consent was granted for the substitution, and the Chair stated that sentence one of 2.2.I.10 now read "In tenure and promotion cases, after examination of the evidence each probationary and tenured faculty member having principal appointment in a department shall have a single vote, and the Chair shall report the vote numerically."

Professor Dakan moved to remove "administrator" from sentence 2 of 2.2.I.10. The motion was seconded.

Discussion included Professors Weissbach, Covell, Hall, and Pfeffer.

Professor Dakan requested unanimous consent to withdrawn his motion, and consent was given.

Professor Lee moved to amend sentence 3 of 2.2.I.10 by addition of "or rank" at the end of the sentence. The motion was seconded.

Discussion included Professors Dakan, Riedel, Hart, Thomas, Ryan, and Weber.

Hearing no call for further discussion, the Chair put the question and the motion to amend sentence 3, 2.2.I.10, carried.

Professor Byers requested to return to 2.2.I.6 and add "at the University of Louisville" after "every course taught by the faculty member." The motion was seconded.

There was no discussion and the motion carried unanimously.

Professor Weissbach moved to reconsider Professor Lee's amendment. The motion was seconded. The motion to reconsider carried.

Professor Byers moved to amend the amendment by addition of "tenure status, or other identifying information" after "rank." The motion was seconded.

Discussion included Professor Cumbler.

Hearing no call for further discussion, the Chair put the question and the motion to amend carried.

Discussion of the amendment as amended included Professors Chalmers, Pfeffer, and Hall.

Hearing no call for further discussion, the Chair put the question and the amendment, as amended, carried.

Professor Barnes moved to amend 2.2.I.10 by addition of the sentence "To preserve an anonymous vote it shall be considered non-collaborative to reveal a vote or to attempt to determine how a faculty member has voted." The motion was seconded.

Discussion included Professors Riedel, Ryan, Weber, Ferre, and Covell.

Hearing no call for further discussion, the Chair put the question and the motion failed.

2.2.I.11:

Discussion included Professor Byers.

The Assembly recessed until 3:00 pm Monday, March 4.
