The minutes of the meeting of January 9 were corrected to reflect that Professor Rabin was in attendance and that action was deferred on COMM 429: Intimate Communication.  The minutes were then approved as corrected.

All actions are effective Summer 2013, unless otherwise noted.

The committee approved changes to the requirements for admission to the major  and minor in Psychology and to the conditions  for completion of a degree (including the minor) in Psychology.

The new admission requirements will read:

“Admission to the major or minor  in Psychology requires (1) completion of Psychology 201 (or approved substitute) with a minimum grade of  C; (2) completion of the General Education mathematics requirement; (3) completion of Psychology 301 (or approved substitute) with a minimum grade of C; (4) completion of 30 hours of degree-applicable credit with a minimum grade point average of 2.0; and (5) a minimum grade of C-in all courses used to meet departmental requirements in the Psychology major.”

The new conditions for successful completion of the major will read:

“Completion of this degree requires  (1) completion of Psychology 302 (or approved substitute) with a minimum grade of C;  (2) a minimum grade of C- in all courses used to meet departmental requirements in the Psychology major; and (3) work to be submitted for the department’s Learning Outcomes Measurement.”

Conditions for completion of the minor are the same as for completion of the major, with the omission of work to be submitted for the department’s Learning Outcomes Measurement.

Requirements for admission to and completion of the minor in Sociology were approved to read:

“Admission to the minor in Sociology requires (1) completion of Sociology 301 with a grade of C or better;  (2) a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0; and (3) a minimum grade point average of 2.0 in any courses in Sociology.  Completion of the minor in Sociology requires completion of Sociology 303 and Sociology 320 with a grade of C or better.”

Changes were approved to major and the minor in Humanities, in both the Disciplinary and Cultural Studies tracks. The major was changed to permit courses at the 400 or 500 level (rather than only courses at the 500 level)  to count toward the 12 hours required in the major sequence.  The Theory Requirement in the minor was changed from a requirement of HUM 509 or 510 to a requirement of HUM 509, 510, 591, 592, 593, 594, 595, or 596 and the requirement was re-named “Interdisciplinary Seminar.”

The following course actions were approved:

PSYC 407:  Community Internships in Psychology (CUE designation)
PSYC 408:  International Service Learning and Research (prerequisite change and CUE designation)
PSYC 444:  Exploration of the Self (new course; CUE designation)

PHYS 430:  Practicum in Physics Education (CUE designation)
PHYS 496:  Senior Seminar in Physics (new course; WR credit; CUE designation)
PHYS 499:  Cooperative Internship (CUE designation).  The committee asked that the written report on the internship show evidence of critical thinking skills and that there be some formal contact between the student and the internship director during the internship.
