Curriculum Committee Minutes

November 21, 2008

Guests: A. Furr (SOC), P. Gagne (SOC)

 

The minutes of the meeting of November 7 were approved as distributed.

The committee approved the proposal to remove the option of concentrations in Communication, Geography, and Pan African Studies from the M.A. in Sociology. Professor Furr explained that these options had been developed at a time when the other departments involved did not have master’s programs.

The proposal for a Ph.D. in Applied Sociology was approved.

Changes were approved to the requirements for the M. A. in French.

The following course actions were approved, effective Summer 2009:

HIST 598: Nationalization and Modernity in East Asia (new course)

HIST 607: Oral History (new course)

HIST 610: Introduction to Historic Preservation (new course)

GERM 221: Intermediate German (number changed to GERM 123)

JAPN 301: Advanced Japanese I (new course)

JAPN 302: Advanced Japanese II (new course)

FREN 523: Advanced Communication Skills (description change)

FREN 600: Advanced Stylistics (new course)

 

Action was deferred on the following courses, pending receipt of additional information from the departments.

HIST 606: Introduction to Archives

HIST 609: Cultural Resources Management

HIST 697: Introduction to Public History

PLAN 636: Site Planning
