Professor Morrill called the meeting to order at 9:00.
Chrystal Galloway was introduced as the student representative to the Committee. She is a member of the Arts & Sciences Student Council.
The minutes of the meeting of October 1, 1996, were corrected to read that the requirements for admission to the major and minor in mathematics apply ONLY to admission to the major. Admission to the minor is unaffected. With this correction, the minutes were approved as distributed.
The following course actions were approved, effective 97U unless otherwise noted.
HIST 396: History of India: new course, approved for cross- cultural and WR GER credit HUM 365: Theories of Music: approved for the theory/history of the arts GER category in Arts and Humanities (effective 97S) HUM 366: Theories of Literature: approved for the theory/history of the arts GER category in Arts and Humanities (effective 97S) HUM 367: Theories of the Visual Arts: approved for the theory/history of the arts GER category in Arts and Humanities (effective 97S) BIOL 571: Selected Topics: credit hour changed from 4 TO 1-4 variable (pending receipt of CIF form) BIOL 572: Selected Topics: delete BIOL 671: Special Topics in Ecology: title change to Special Topics; credit hour change from 1-3 TO 1-4 BIOL 672: Special Topics in Molecular Biology: delete ML 361: Modern German Stories: new course; approved for WR credit ML 362: Modern German Fiction: new course; approved for WR credit ML 363: Modern German Drama: new course; approved for WR credit ML 364: Masterpieces of German Theatre: new course; approved for WR credit POLS 519: Urban Poverty and Policy: new course POLS 513: Political Dimensions of Law: delete POLS 515: Community Power Structures: delete POLS 516: Community Power Structures II: delete POLS 610: Seminar in Constitutional Law: delete MATH 205: Calculus I: description change MATH 206: Calculus II: description change (Beginning 97F, MATH 205/206 will include a computer laboratory meeting; credit hours are unchanged.)Action on MILS 410 was deferred pending discussion between the Military Science and History departments.
Action on BIOL 584/684 was deferred pending receipt of information on the work required for graduate credit in the 500-level course. Action on BIOL 621 was deferred pending receipt of a sample syllabus.
