Do visual artists, musicians, pastry artists and writers share any notions of form? Are there similarities between a painter’s formal decisions and a baker’s? Between a jazz composer’s and a fiction writer’s?
On Thursday April 1 and Friday April 2, the 2010 Axton Literary Festival, The Story of Form, will examine these questions. Paying particular attention to the formal possibilities of fiction, the festival will explore forms across the arts, beginning with a reading of a mininovel by the Ukrainian émigré writer Yuriy Tarnawsky. Following his reading, Mr. Tarnawsky will lead a discussion on his use of from, and other festival events will continue the exploration.
