A lot has changed since you were an A&S student. Join us on Saturday, October 19 over Homecoming week-end and experience a sampling of what UofL’s College of Arts and Sciences has to offer its students, its alumni and the community. “THINK AGAIN: A Day with A&S” is an informative, interdisciplinary and interactive experience that will take place at UofL's Cressman Center for Visual Arts downtown.
The half-day program will center around the ideas of cultural evolution, paradigm shifts and evolving human consciousness.
The day will begin with a light English breakfast while taking in a student performance of excerpts of Shakespeare’s The Tempest directed by Theatre Arts Professor Rinda Frye and post-performance discussion led by English Professor Julia Dietrich. To see a trailer and for more on the UofL production of The Tempest September 25-29, see: UofL Theatre Arts The Tempest.
After a short break, enjoy a brief and entertaining lecture on "Mr. Jefferson and the Giant Moose," a book about Thomas Jefferson and his attempts to counter the French conception of American degeneracy by the book’s author, biology professor and humanist Lee Dugatkin.
Take in a glass blowing demonstration.
Finally, cap it all off with a public talk by this year's A&S Alumni Fellow, David "Jelly" Helm Jelly, a 1987 Fine Arts graduate and pioneer in the field of advertising. Helm will discuss “The Hero’s Journey: A Blueprint for Personal, Professional and Cultural Evolution.”
Everything, including a a light breakfast and a boxed lunch, are included in the $25 price of registration: Online Registration or 502-852-6490 or email@example.com.
