Jonathan Haws, Professor of Anthropology, has been investigating the replacement of Neanderthals by anatomically modern humans on the Iberian Peninsula where Neanderthals held on for several thousand years later than in the rest of Eurasia. His search for Neanderthals in their last refuge has involved numbers of U of L students who participate in his surveys and excavations. In this illustrated presentation Dr. Haws will discuss the latest genetic and archaeological research that has led to a dramatic shift in prevailing views of the Neanderthals.
