Liberal Studies Program Emergency Plan
LIBERAL STUDIES
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PLAN
Submitted by John Hale to Dean Hudson, Fall 2009
The Liberal Studies Program in the College of Arts and Sciences has prepared the following Preparedness Plan in case of an emergency. The staff of the LBST Program consists of director John Hale, coordinator Janna Tajibaeva, academic adviser Maggie Noffke, and instructor Linda Rogers, who teaches the Program’s only classroom course, LBST 300, one afternoon each week.
OPERATIONS:
In case of staff absences, communication will be carried on between workplace and home via telephone and email. If the staff member is too ill to communicate, all members of our staff are authorized to perform routine duties associated with the Liberal Studies Program’s academic initiatives. Should decisions of major programmatic importance have to be made in the absence of director John Hale, then Janna Tajibaeva or one of the other staff members will act after consulting Dean Hudson.
MAINTAINING EFFICIENT COMMUNICATIONS OFF-CAMPUS:
The four members of the Liberal Studies staff all keep the telephone numbers and email addresses of other staff members with them. This ensures that communication via electronic means can be maintained. The home addresses of the staff are also on file, in case home visits are required to pick up important materials or to secure signatures on important documents.
EMERGENCY COVERAGE OF CRITICAL FUNCTIONS:
In the absence of adviser Maggie Noffke, director John Hale will perform the duties of meeting with students. Where possible, important advising sessions will be deferred until Ms Noffke’s return. In the absence of Janna Tajibaeva, director John Hale will be responsible for the financial transactions and records pertaining to the Liberal Studies Project. Should Linda Rogers be absent due to serious illness or other emergency, director John Hale will teach the once-a-week sessions of LBST 300 that she misses. Finally, in the protracted absence of director John Hale, Maggie Noffke has been authorized to conduct both admissions interviews with LBST candidates and also exit interviews.
IN GENERAL:
As soon as an LBST staff member becomes ill, or some other emergency seems likely to prevent one of the four staff members from coming to campus for an extended period, the remaining staff members will immediately notify Dean Hudson and Anne Domeck of the situation via email. Should the emergency be of a nature that has a serious impact on our advising services to LBST candidates and majors, a notice to that effect will be sent out on the LBST list-serve to all affected student
