SOCIOLOGY PLAN for EXTENDED ABSENCES DUE to H1N1 INFECTION
Chair Duties
In the event the chair requires an extended absence, Prof. Cindy Negrey will assume chair duties.  Prof. Pat Gagne will perform chair duties should both Drs. Furr and Negrey become ill.  Cell phones and emails will be used to conduct departmental business when appropriate.

Advising Duties
If Dr. Jonetta Weber (UG) and/or Dr. Gagne (GRAD) require extended absence, Prof. Furr will assume advising responsibility.

Reception
Should Ms. Fortwengler become ill, the front desk will be covered by Drs. Weber and Furr and the two work-study students employed by the department.

UBM Duties
Should Dr. Weber become ill, her duties will be covered by Prof Furr, Ms. Fortwengler, and other faculty as needed.

Department Website
Dr. Weber is the “web master” for the Department’s website.   __________ will serve as her back-up if she is ill or not available to make changes to the website.

Teaching
When possible, faculty who require extended leave will post recorded lectures on Blackboard.  Otherwise, “well” faculty and graduate students will be asked to cover classes of ill colleagues.  The chair will assume primary responsibility for organizing the substitutions.  Black Board and email will be used to communicate with students.

Notification
The department’s plan has been posted on its web page and instructors have been asked to post their contingencies on Blackboard

Good Health Practices
a.    The chair has circulated the CDC’s website on H1N1 and will monitor the health status of the department community.
b.    A conservative approach will be taken to separate infected persons from others.  Lenient policies regarding absences will be applied.
c.    The department will encourage infection-control practices.
