Dept of Pan-African Studies Emergency Plan
PAS Departmental Plan for Emergency & Extended Absences Due to H1N1 Infection
As many of you are aware the HINI virus poses a risk to our personal health and requires that we take certain personal and departmental precautions.
It had been advised that at the personal level if you get sick, stay home (see the CDC & U of L websites regarding the course of the infection and timing for consulting a medical professional). In addition, use hand sanitizer; wash your hands often and thoroughly; sneeze and cough into something and then dispose or contain it; avoid crowds; get a seasonal flu shot, if appropriate; get the swine flu shot if it becomes available to you; eat well and get plenty of sleep.
At the departmental level: In the event the chair requires an extended absence, we are fortunate that there are several former chairs who can assume chair duties. Drs. Ricky Jones & Yvonne Jones can both perform chair duties. Cell phones and emails will be used to conduct departmental business when appropriate.
For advising duties, if Dr. Adams (undergraduate program director) and/or Dr. Martin (graduate program director) require extended absence, then the Chair will assume advising responsibility. For Reception and/or UBM duties, both Chandra & Candace will substitute for each other. The chair and graduate assistants will also be on the alert to help out in these responsibilities if necessary.
For teaching any faculty who requires extended leave should post lectures on Blackboard. If necessary, other faculty and graduate teaching assistants will be asked to cover classes of ill colleagues. The chair will assume primary responsibility for organizing the substitutions. Black Board and email will be used to communicate with
students.
For website
Website Administrators- Grad Asst Wille Wright, Ms. Chandra Stroud, Ms. Candace Bell
As responsible faculty I ask that you keep abreast of all updates posted on the University's & CDC's websites on H1N1. I will monitor the health status of the department & policies regarding absences. In addition, there are reminder posters on walls with suggested good health practices and hand sanitizers places strategically in the department.
If colleagues have other good suggestions please share these. Thanks for your corporation.
