Dept of Mathematics Emergency Plan
Department of Mathematics Plan for Emergency Operation:
Department Administration:
1. Department Chair, Thomas Riedel
2. Assistant Chair, Robert Powers
3. Graduate Adviser, André Kézdy
4. Undergraduate Director, David Swanson
5. Graduate Director, Bingtuan Li
In the event that one of the members of the department leadership becomes incapacitated we have the fol-lowing rules for the jobs to be redistributed: In the list below, jobs move one down and the bottom job moves to the top. In mathematical terms we use addition modulo 5.
In the event that two jobs need to be redistributed, we follow the same rule except the second job will con-tinue to move down (cyclically) to ensure that each person still has at most two jobs to do.
Department Staff:
1. Unit Business Manager, Barbara Newlin
2. Tier 1, Joel Evans (50%)
3. Administrative Assistant, Shelly Schroll
4. Program Assistant, Stephen Altman
In the event that one of the office staff becomes incapacitated we will redistribute the duties as follows. Unit business manger duties will be distributed between chair and administrative assistant; administrative assistant job will be distributed between unit business manager and program assistant; program assistant job will be distributed between administrative assistant and work study students. Duties having to do with Procard approval and Reconciliation may have to be handled in the Dean’s office as the same person cannot approve and reallocate. The duties of Tier 1 are hard to replace, especially as the position is shared with Physics; faculty are told to back up documents regularly. If faculty workstations are not functioning, they have access to computers in our lab. If the lab is not functioning, we will need to rely either on A&S Tier 1 support or outsource.
Dr. Andre Kezdy is the person who maintains the web-site for the Department. Dr. Thomas Riedel would be the back-up should anything be needed immediately. Also, the Department’s Tier 1 support person, Joel Evans, has access to the server and could post notes on the site. The department does not currently have a web master familiar with the new plone system.
Undergraduate Advising:
1. Undergraduate Advising Coordinator, Wei-Bin Zeng
2. Actuarial Director, Ewa Kubicka
3. BA- Math and Teaching advising, Wiley Williams
In the event that one of the advising faculty becomes incapacitated we will redistribute the duties as fol-lows. Advising coordinator contact from other units and A&S advising should be redirected to chair; advising duties (mostly right before and during early registration) will be distributed over all faculty and coordination will be taken over by the next person in the above list.
Classes:
Any person who cannot meet a class as scheduled has to report this to the Chair, Assistant Chair and office staff. If we have access to an email list of students, we will send change/cancellation notices via email, oth-erwise a note will be posted in the class room. Each faculty member has one other faculty member or GTA as back-up. Large lectures will be taken over by the senior GTA. GTA’s have other GTA’s for back-ups for their recitation sections. For early morning classes or with short notice, we may need to cancel one class session; any such action will be reported to the Dean as required. Upper level and graduate classes that are hard to substitute due to faculty specialty will we rescheduled or taught by correspondence via BlackBoard, if the faculty member is well enough.
