A&S Advising Center Emergency Plan
How can the College operate when key administrators and support staff may be "out?"
In the event that the Assistant Dean for A&S Advising is ill, unit-level leadership will go to Lauren Rust as the Assoc. Director and then to Meg Rohmann, the Asst. Director. If any of the Advising Coordinators become ill and are unable execute their tasks directly, supervision will be re-directed to one of the unit directors and their advising caseload will be re-distributed among the remaining advising staff in their division.
How can we maintain efficient communications with one another when some or all of us are "off-campus?"
Off-campus communication can be maintained by phone (cell and home phone listings are available internally) as well as through e-mail and instant message via Groupwise. Additionally, Advising has an active Blackboard shell where shared documents and other communications (e.g. committees) may continue to conduct business. This same mode of communication is available for the instruction of the A&S Orientation courses as well.
How would your department/unit function if the chair/director, UBM or other key persons were out?
As noted above, the Associate Director and Assistant Director may assume responsibilities for the unit in the absence of the Assistant Dean. If our Administrative Associate becomes ill and is out for an extended period of time, the remaining support staff has been cross trained on various aspects her job and may assume these duties on a temporary basis.
How would you handle classes when the instructor may be "out" for an extended period?
Since we have rotated many of the times for staff to teach the A&S Orientation course, the continued instruction of the course would be assumed by another (available) advising staff member with the added support of the peer advisors. In worse case scenario, the classes are structured in such a way that we are able to combine sections in order to execute our sections.
