Diversity and Inclusion Programs
Diversity is integral to excellence in education and thus is central to our educational mission. We commit ourselves to building an exemplary educational community that offers an inclusive and equitable intellectual climate, as well as an understanding and respect for the range of human diversity.
Current and past diversity programs include:
Inclusive Teaching Circles
These are small, consistent groups of faculty, lecturers, and GTAs who are dedicated to teaching that is inclusive and equitable for all students.
Diversity and Inclusion Workshops
In our continued commitment to achieving an inclusive campus environment, the College of Arts and Sciences conducts diversity workshops for faculty, staff, and graduate students. These workshops promote discussions on the intersections of race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, ability, faith, and other aspects of diversity. We strive to create a safe space for the free exchange of ideas that is more inclusive of voices and ways of knowing that are absent, unpopular, excluded, or oppressed.
This is a central, on-line location for a variety of events, professional development opportunities, and more happening on campus. Monday Memos contain information pertinent to A&S's diversity and inclusion efforts.
Diversity in Hiring Initiatives
Our diversity and inclusion efforts include recruiting and training Diversity Advocates to sit on hiring and search committees and reinforce equitable decision-making at all stages of the hiring process. Diversity Advocates intercede when criteria are applied more rigorously to candidates of minority candidates, ask follow-up questions, challenge implicit biases throughout the search process, and collaborate with search committees to make the hiring process more inclusive.
This series promoted discussions on the intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, class, ability, faith, and other aspects of cultural diversity by creating a safe space for the free exchange of ideas that was more inclusive of voices and ways of knowing that have been absent, unpopular, excluded, or oppressed.
New Faculty Inclusion and Support
A&S's department of diversity and community engagement organizes events designed to support all new A&S faculty in an effort to promote campus inclusion. These events are a celebration and recognition of our new faculty, and their work, at UofL
