Study Abroad Program Photo Contest
“A picture is worth a thousand words”
Study Abroad Photo Contest
AND THE WINNERS ARE…
1ST PLACE: “Windmills” taken by Curtis Creekmore, Senior French major
KIIS, Dijon, France, Spring 2007
Windmills was taken on Mykonos, one of the small islands that make up the
Cyclades. It is found in the Aegean Sea, and is part of Greece. The island is
known for its blue and white buildings, reflecting the flag of Greece, and also
for its windmills.

2ND PLACE: “ Montpellier, France & Louisville” taken by Sarah Ahern,
Junior French major
Montpellier Work Exchange through Sister Cities of Louisville: Montpellier,
France, Summer 2007
This picture was too sweet not to capture. It's hard to imagine the distance
between Montpellier and Louisville because they're trans-Atlantic. All of the
other sister cities distances are also on the post.

3RD PLACE: “ Melos, Greece” taken by Kathleen Hargis, Senior Anthropology
major
KIIS, Greece, Summer 2007
This picture was taken on a day trip to the island of Melos off a volcanic
cliffside.

The winning photos will be on display throughout April in Gardiner Hall, 1st
floor, Office of Advising & Student Services.
The Arts & Sciences Office of Advising and Student Services sponsored the
Study Abroad Photo contest in March 2008. A&S study abroad participants from
2007 shared their experiences and memories of traveling and studying abroad via
photographs. Winning photos were selected by University of Louisville students
who voted via ULink ballot in March.
More than 35 photos were submitted for the contest, and these photos with
student names and majors can be seen below

“Chenonceau” was taken in France along the Loire River. Many
castles are scattered along the Loire River valley, Chenonceau being one of the
more beautiful. The river runs along behind the castle, and stretching along its
banks, the rest of the property contains many "jardins", complete with fountains
like the one seen in the photo.

Morelia , Mexico
“Las Combis” - In Morelia, where I stayed, the public
transportation was in the form of small mini van-like vehicles. They were
extremely cheap, efficient, and easy to use. However, during the peak hours, as
many people as possible would cram into them. In this photo, I believe there
were 12 people riding.
