Utilizing a variety of camera formats from pinhole to iPhone, Eckert trains his
lens to explore the surface textures of topiary forms, hedges, glass house
conservatories and walls. These formal elements come together in richly
textured black and white images that compliment his color rich details of walls
and botanic specimens viewed through hothouse glass. Surface examines the
texture and form of the constructed landscape from an experiential vantage
point, offering surprising glimpses of unexpected details within the highly
constructed world of the garden.
Surface features selections from the most recent body of work by Eckert, which
was funded in part by the Italian Cultural Institute of Louisville, as well as the
Research Initiation Grant from the University of Louisville.
The exhibition is a limited engagement and will run May 2 through May 24.
