Art Collections of the Hite Art Institute

The Hite Art Institute manages the University’s art collection, now totaling almost 3,000 pieces.  This collection provides the school a variety of resources for teaching, research and environmental enrichment.   While its collecting focus is primarily prints and works on paper, due to the financial support provided by the Morris Belknap Purchase Endowment Fund, other major areas of emphasis are works by Louisville area artists, plus alumni and students of the Hite.  Finally, works that support the various class curricula of the Hite’s Art History program are a final collecting concentration.  Alumni and friends support these important collections through artwork donations and funds for purchase of special pieces as identified by the faculty.

The Hite Art Institute welcomes inquiries, particularly in the areas of its collection focus, regarding gifts and donations, or for research and study opportunities in conjunction with the Margaret Bridwell Art Library.  Contact either Gallery Director, John Begley, 502/852-4483 or Curator of Collections, Dr. Dario Covi, 502/852- 0447 for further information about the University Art Collection.
