Cartwright and Rhodes both hold MFA’s from Tyler School of Art, which is where they met, worked together, and became friends. Stephen Cartwright earned his BA in Studio Art from the University of California, Davis and is currently Assistant Professor in Sculpture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His work is informed and often driven by data compiled from personal, geographical, and topographical information, as well as sophisticated technological processes.
Ché Rhodes is Associate Professor and Head of Studio Glass at the University of Louisville, Allen R. Hite Art Institute in Kentucky. Rhodes’ work recurrently tends toward an investigation of the qualitative versus the quantitative.
Clearing is an exhibition by the two artists themed upon ideas of transparency, information, and documentation.
