DESCRIPTION:The Hite Art Institute and the Jewish Community Center pre
 sent this lecture in conjunction with the Exhibition held at the Jewis
 h Community Center Gallery.  Arturo Alonzo Sandoval\, Professor of Art
  at the\nUniversity of Kentucky\, creates a new aesthetic\nwith his co
 ntemporary fiber art objects using\n20th Century recycled industrial m
 aterials such\nas computer tape\, battery cable\, microfilm\,\nMylar\,
  holographic film and Lurex. Using a floor\nloom\, sewing machine\, or
  hand interlacing\ntechniques he constructs works that are\nvisually a
 nd technically complex.\nSandoval’s fiber mixed media art works are 
 in\nnumerous collections including the Museum\nof Modern Art\, The Mus
 eum of Art and Design\nNY. His works have been exhibited extensively\n
 regionally and nationally and have included the\n8th and 14th Biennial
  of Tapestry in Lausanne\,\nSwitzerland and the Textile Triennial in L
 odz\,\nPoland. His creative efforts have been awarded\ntwo NEA Visual 
 Arts Fellowships.
