 thorities on the subject of artists’\nwritings. She has edited a pri
 mary\nresource for artists’ writings\, Theories\nand Documents of Co
 ntemporary Art\: A\nSourcebook of Artists’ Writings (University\nof 
 California Press)\, which has just\nbeen published in an updated\, rev
 ised\,\nand expanded second edition in 2012.\nTheories and Documents f
 eatures over\nthree hundred artists from thirty different\ncountries s
 peaking for themselves on\nissues related to the production and\nphilo
 sophy of contemporary art. Stiles\nis also the editor of Correspondenc
 e\nCourse\: An Epistolary History of Carolee\nSchneemann and Her Circl
 e (Duke\nUniversity Press)\, a volume for which\nshe selected\, edited
 \, annotated\, and\nintroduced the correspondence written\nand receive
 d by Schneemann over a\nforty year period. The letters provide an\nepi
 stolary history of Schneemann and\nother figures central to the intern
 ational\navant-garde of Happenings\, Fluxus\,\nperformance\, and conce
 ptual art\,\nincluding the composer James Tenney\,\nthe filmmaker Stan
  Brakhage\, the artist\nDick Higgins\, the dancer and filmmaker\nYvonn
 e Rainer\, the poet Clayton Eshleman\,\nand the psychiatrist Joseph Be
 rke. Stiles\nhas also conducted interviews with\ndozens of contemporar
 y artists over the\ncourse of her career.
